Hiking Through Arizona

Flatiron Peak

Flatiron Peak is part of the Superstition Mountains which is located within the Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction, Arizona.

The hike to Flatiron Peak is an amazingly, challenging trail. It is a moderate 5.5 hike, that takes about 6 hours to complete. The first time I visited I captured this amazing picture at dawn. But it was not until the second visit that I completed the hike up to the top.

The journey starts at Siphon Draw Trailhead, where the gravel road will take you along the boundary of the park and then up in between the two peaks. The second half is where it starts getting challenging and you'll reach a point where you might think the trail ends cold. This is the part where you need to start climbing. A good rule to follow is to keep right as you go up and left as you go down.

While we did enjoy breathtaking views and a sense of satisfaction after completing the hike, my favorite part was the community. I embarked this hike with my friend Donna and we meet so many nice people along the way. One that even completed the entire hike with us.

I hope that you choose to take on this rewarding challenge. But be fair warned this hike will test your limits. There is no cellphone signal until you reach the summit. It is super important to be prepared, brings tons of water and snacks! Don't forget layers and sunscreen.
